STANDING COMMITTEES

Post 141 Committees are now forming.

 Americanism Committee- 

 Purpose:  To inspire patriotism and good citizenship through patriotic observances, assist with the Americanization of aliens, flag etiquette, sponsor citizenship activities such as youth Oratorical contests, and other related community services. The Americanism Committee is also responsible for the Flag Retirement Ceremonies. Our Americanism Committee Chair is

Membership Committee-

Purpose: To obtain, recruit, and increase membership of the Post from among area veterans, with specific responsibilities for enrollment of new members, renewal of current members, and reinstatement of past members.  Comittee contact is Sam Sapienza. 

Veterans Affairs Committee-

Purpose:  To assist veterans in obtaining needed hospitalization, to assist in the pursuit of claims,  and obtaining veterans right's and benefits; to visit comrades who are sick or disabled, to visit and comfort members of their family when sick or bereaved.

This committee has two subcommittees: One subcommittee is responsible for economic matters, such as assisting veterans in meeting and overcoming economic problems, problems with employment, veterans preference, civil service appeals, employment of the disabled, and older workers.

Other subcommittee is responsible for maintaining contact with deployed or local members of the Armed Forces, and making contact of new veterans needing services, in conjunction with the Post Service Officer, during wartime, and the period immediately following the termination of hostilities.  

Legislative Committee-

Purpose: To promote the official legislative mandates of the American Legion; disseminate legislative updates;  establish, maintain and promote proactive grassroots lobbying activities; and establish and maintain liaison with elected officials and their staffs. All activities are in compliance with Section 2, Article II of the American Legion Constitution, which states "The American Legion shall be absolutely non-political and shall not be used for dissemination of partisan principles, nor for the promotion of candidacy of any person seeking public office."  

The Legislative Committee may also, from time to time, hold Town Hall meetings, Meet the Candidate nights, or allow candidates to address Post meetings. Candidates may participate, provided an invitation is extended to all candidates, affording them equal opportunity to participate. The American Legion cannot endorse or oppose any candidate. Every effort must be made to remain nonpartisan.  

Finance Committee-

Purpose: to supervise the receiving, disbursement, and accounting of all Post funds; to prepare the annual budget recommendations for the Post; to advise the Post on all financial policies.
